We have been called by God to serve as missionaries and He has given us the opportunity to join the work He’s already doing through the Church of the Nazarene in Manila, Philippines. We will be serving as Work & Witness Coordinator Trainees for the Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary starting in late 2010.
Our journey is no different than many of your journeys. Our call wasn’t a flash of light or an audible voice, and we didn’t have a stranger come up to us and give us a revelation. It was a simple call. During a mission-focused service, God put a call on Jason’s heart to ‘surrender all’ and he answered. Shortly after, God confirmed that call in Karen. Since then, we have been praying for wisdom and discernment and walking through the open doors.
We have three little girls who are excited about this transition and about living on an island. They may be a bit young to grasp hold of what God has called our family to do, but that doesn’t mean that God can’t grasp hold of their little hearts and leave an indelible impression on them. Jason and Karen are most excited about that!!!
Currently, Jason works as a trainer and project manager in the health insurance industry and Karen is serving the highest call by raising and homeschooling their three girls.
Are you asking yourself, ”How does trainer and project manager translate into an effective Work & Witness Coordinator?” Great question! Hudson Taylor, a missionary to China, has the answer… “God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on him.” Only through God’s power will we be able to serve as effective missionaries, not through our own strength. He will receive the glory because He chose to use broken vessels to do His work.
